An Art Director and a chef

We’re Lucy and Julian, owners of Ka-fey cafe. We believe great coffee brings people together and we’re passionate about creating a welcoming space for locals, workers, visitors and families in the heart of Newcastle.

A little about us

What started with a love of great coffee and good food has grown into a café we’re incredibly proud to call home. Every day we get to welcome locals, visitors, families, tradies, students, office workers and our favorite dogs.
Our goal has always been simple: serve exceptional coffee, fresh food made with care and create a place where everyone feels welcome.
You’ll find specialty coffee brewed with passion, fresh meals made daily, cold-pressed juices packed with flavour and a team who genuinely enjoys getting to know our customers.
Ka-fey cafe is more than a café to us—it’s part of the Newcastle community. Thank you for supporting a local small business and allowing us to do what we love every day.

Coffee. Community. Character.

Lucy is happiest creating new sweet treats, hunting down quirky antiques and vintage treasures, and dreaming up the next big thing to surprise our customers. Whether it’s finding a unique gift, launching a new T-shirt range, or experimenting with the next menu favourite, she’s always on the lookout for something different.
Julian has probably spent more time at Ka-fey than he has at home! He somehow enjoys early starts (someone has to!), and if he’s not talking about the café, there’s a good chance he’s talking about Liverpool FC. You’ll rarely catch him without a coffee in hand, a smile for the regulars, or explaining why this is Liverpool’s year. Bonus points if you spot the photo of Craig Johnston!
Together, we’re passionate about creating a café that’s welcoming, a little different, and somewhere people genuinely enjoy spending time. Whether you’re stopping in for your morning coffee, a fresh meal, or just a friendly chat, we’re grateful to have you as part of the Ka-fey community.

Together, we believe cafés are about more than coffee. They’re places where friendships begin, ideas are shared, and the community comes together.
